Taylor's Seen Fire, Rain And Lots Of Carole King

James Taylor still has a friend in Carole King.

Taylor and King were a match made in 1969 at Hollywood's famed Troubadour nightclub. They were rehearsing there Tuesday afternoon for a series of benefit concerts coinciding with the club's 50th anniversary.

"I was standing right up there," Taylor, 59, recalled, pointing over to the bar. "And I would listen to Carole play it every night. I was working it up on guitar. She heard me playing it, and she said, 'You should cut that. That sounds real good.'"

For both artists, who have filled concert halls for decades, the new releases mark a return to the sort of intimacy that comes when playing for just a few hundred people in a venue such as The Troubadour.

King and Taylor seem to have come full circle.

"I can't figure if we're on our way out or if we're just starting a second lap," Taylor said, chuckling, "or if we're just going out the way we came in."

Castroneves Says Fiancee Is Off His Dance Card
Newly-crowed "Dancing with the Stars" champ Helio Castroneves has split from his fiancee, Aliette Vazquez.

"I can confirm that Aliette Vazquez and I have called off our engagement and are no longer together," Castroneves said in an exclusive statement to People magazine.

The news came hours after the race car driver won Tuesday's "Dancing" finale with his pro partner, Julianne Hough.

"There's been a lot of rumors and a lot of stuff said, and she just wanted confirmed that they are no longer engaged," said Vazquez's publicist, Howard Bragman, possibly hinting at viewer speculation that something seemed to be brewing between Castroneves and Hough.

"I'm not gonna talk about the rumors. I mean, they're clearly out there," said Bragman.

Singer's Wife Ushers In A Baby Boy
Usher is the father of a baby boy.

His wife, Tameka Foster, gave birth to their son, Usher Raymond V, in Atlanta on Monday night, a publicist for the 29-year-old singer said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

The baby weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces. He is the couple's first child. Foster, 37, has three children from a previous marriage.

Penn, Moore Win Big At Independent Film Awards

Sean Penn and Michael Moore demonstrated their power in the independent film world, taking top honors at the 17th annual Gotham Awards.

Penn's "Into the Wild," which he adapted from Jon Krakauer's bestseller about a doomed young idealist, won best feature. Moore won the award for best documentary for "Sicko," in which he takes the pulse of America's health-care system and finds it ailing.

The awards were presented by the Independent Feature Project at the Steiner Studios in the New York City borough of Brooklyn on Tuesday. The event will air Dec. 8 on The Documentary Channel.
