Accident Closes Portion Of I-275 In St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG - The northbound lanes of Interstate 275 near 54th Avenue North remain closed while the Florida Highway Patrol investigates a fatal car crash.
The road is expected to reopen by 10:30 p.m., said Lt. M.D. Hensley of the highway patrol.
The accident occurred about 6:44 p.m. today and has snarled traffic north from 54th Avenue North to Gandy Boulevard. Northbound interstate traffic at 5th Avenue North had come to a complete stop for nearly four hours, the highway patrol said.
One person was killed in the two vehicle crash, Hensley said. The cause of the crash has not been determined and the highway patrol is still working to clear the scene, Hensley said.
