BRADENTON - A recount Thursday showed that Wayne Poston was re-elected mayor of Bradenton.
After Tuesday's runoff election, he was 24 votes ahead of rival Bill Evers, triggering a mandatory recount. Thursday morning, all 7,400 ballots were sent back through the machines, which had been checked for accuracy. The final tally had Evers picking up two additional votes and Poston getting one more.
Evers could request a hand recount or go through the courts to protest the results, but he has said he likely would stand by Thursday's tally.
Poston will be sworn in Jan. 2.
