GAINESVILLE - University of Florida QB Tim Tebow sported a small, blue cast - his third since Saturday - as he left practice Thursday.
Speaking for the first time since he fractured his right (non-throwing) hand during the Florida State game, Tebow said his first two casts were filled with signatures. The first cast was a temporary one from the training room, but he didn't say why his second cast was switched out.
"It's painful. It's a broken hand, but I was too excited beating Florida State to worry about that," he said with a smile.
Tebow wasn't sure how he suffered the break, which occurred during his 5-yard rushing touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter. He still threw at practice, though he didn't take snaps, and he said handing off the ball is also a challenge.
Tebow will still be wearing the cast Dec. 8, when he will most likely attend the Heisman ceremony, and he's already worried about accessorizing the cast with his suit.
"We were thinking about that - make sure we have a decent color," Tebow said.
NEWTON STAYING PUT: Backup QB Cameron Newton said Thursday rumors he plans to transfer are completely false.
"That's a negative," Newton said. "I'm not transferring. I'll wait my turn."
Newton said he has had several long discussions with his father about his situation, and he said his father's advice has always been that he should stay patient and continue working hard.
"He just keeps telling me to wait my turn," Newton said. "That's what I'm going to do."
ETC.: WR Percy Harvin said even though the Gators were sad to see fellow WR Jarred Fayson transfer, he's not sure Fayson's departure will affect the team. "Like coach said at the end of this year, anybody who doesn't want to be here needs to leave now because next year we're looking to do some big things," Harvin said. … When WR Andre Caldwell told Tebow to strike the Heisman pose toward the end of the Florida State game, the quarterback tried to pass the idea right back. "He's like, 'No, you do it,'" Caldwell said. "I said, 'I ain't winning the Heisman.'"
