TAMPA - A 26-year-old Tampa man was sentenced to 42 months in prison for stealing mail, credit cards and identities, the U.S. attorney's office reported Monday.
Frank James Miller stole more than 360 items of mail from residents in the Lutz and Carrollwood area from July to October 2005, court documents state.
Miller was charged with two counts of possession of stolen mail, unauthorized use of an access device and aggravated identity theft.
He pleaded guilty to the charges. U.S. District Judge James Whittemore sentenced Miller on Monday.
Miller, who was arrested in October of 2005, used the stolen credit card to pay for legal fees and a student loan. On the day he was arrested, Miller had in his wallet eight credit cards that belonged to people whose mail he had stolen.
Miller tried to use stolen checks and credit cards to purchase more than $30,000 in goods and services.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
