TAMPA - A 26-year-old Tampa man was sentenced to 42 months in jail for stealing mail, credit cards and identities, the U.S. Attorney's Office Middle District of Florida reported on Monday.
Frank James Miller stole more than 360 items of mail from resident in the Lutz and Carrollwood area from July to October 2005, according to court documents
Miller was charged with two counts of possession of stolen mail, unauthorized use of an access device and aggravated identity theft.
He pleaded guilty to the charges as U.S. District Court Judges James Whittemore sentenced Miller on Monday.
Miller, who was arrested Oct. 2005, used the stolen credit card to pay for legal fees and a student loan. On the day he was arrested, Miller had eight credit cards belonging to people whose mail he had stolen in his wallet when he was arrested.
Miller attempted to use the stolen checks and credit cards to purchase more than $30,000 in goods and services.
The case was investigated by United States Postal Inspection Service and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
