CORAL GABLES - The Miami Hurricanes are coming off a 24-14 victory against Duke, improving them to 4-1.

WHAT WENT RIGHT: Junior college transfer Kayne Farquharson finally made an impact this season.

The receiver had just one catch in the first four games but had six receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown against Duke, with fellow receivers Sam Shields and Ryan Hill being held out for not practicing well, according to Coach Randy Shannon.

'If you watch Saturday, Kayne made some catches and Kayne made some blocks downfield. To me, that is a win-win attitude right there. He is going to do what it takes even if he gets the ball or doesn't get the ball,' Shannon said.

Shields was held out despite coming off a 117-yard performance in the upset win against Texas A&M.

'I think Shields and Hill will be ready because Saturday they saw someone named Kayne Farquharson,' Shannon said. 'He did real well and they'll start practicing the right way. Sometimes you don't have to worry about half the things, all you need is somebody to produce. That changes everything.'

WHAT WENT WRONG: Penalties and interceptions.

'Some areas we have to clean up, especially all of the holding penalties that we had,' Shannon said. 'That was unacceptable because those guys do a good job. When guys aren't doing a good job with technique, those kind of things happen and we will bring the officials out to practice and emphasize that this week with the holding.'

Shannon said the first interception thrown by Kyle Wright was WR Leonard Hankerson's fault because he ran an 18-yard route and the play should have been a 12-yard route. The second interception in the end zone was Wright's fault.

INJURY UPDATE: There were no injuries to report.

CHALLENGE AHEAD: The Canes travel to North Carolina this week to face former UM coach Butch Davis (1995-2000). 'It ain't me against Butch or the University of Miami against Butch,' said Shannon, linebackers coach for three seasons under Davis.

THEY SAID IT: 'I have been waiting for this since I was born. My name is Kayne. I have been dreaming of being a Hurricane and now I am a Hurricane, it is pretty much a dream come true.' - Farquharson on making an impact in a game for UM.
