ST. LEO - The men's soccer team enjoyed its best week of the season, winning all three of its matches by a combined score of 10-1 to improve to 6-2-2 on the year.

The Lions began the week with a 1-0 overtime win at Sunshine State Conference rival Eckerd, moving into a tie for second in the league standings (2-1). The lone goal was scored by junior Brandon Whitsett, his second game-winner of the season.

Whitsett went on to record two assists in each of Saint Leo's other matches last week: a 4-1 win against Thomas (Ga.) University and a 5-0 blowout of Georgia Southwestern.

Freshman MF Jonathan Glenn and junior F Eusabio Montoya had goals in both matches, with Glenn posting two goals against Georgia Southwestern. Both players are in a tight race for Saint Leo leading scorer honors; Montoya has nine goals to Glenn's eight.

GK Sam Luedke was named an SSC player of the week for his performances in the matches, including six saves against Eckerd.

The Lions play one match this week, Friday night at 7 against SSC foe Florida Tech at University Field.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: The No. 21 Lions (9-2, 3-1 SSC) extended their winning streak to six by beating Eckerd 4-0, Thomas 3-1 and Georgia Southwestern by a staggering 11-0.

Former Land O' Lakes standout GK Lauren Hudson posted her second and third shutouts of the year, while sophomore MF Sara Macko (three goals, six assists) and freshman D Dari Alcantara (three goals) led an offensive surge by scoring in each match. Macko leads the Lions with 17 points (five goals, seven assists) this year.

Saint Leo, a half-game behind Nova Southeastern for first in the league standings, plays twice at home this week, tonight at 7 against Flagler, and Saturday night at 7 against SSC rival Florida Tech.

VOLLEYBALL: Following their 3-0 loss to No. 9 Florida Southern on Tuesday, the Lions split a pair of five-game matches during the weekend, beating Palm Beach Atlantic but losing an SSC match against Eckerd, falling to 12-5 overall, 3-3 in the SSC.

Against PBA, freshman OH Kim Nuckols had 13 kills and 17 digs. MB Emily Frey had 10 blocks (one solo) to add to her conference lead. Setter Michelle Nogueras had a triple double in both matches.

OH Audrey Starkebaum played in only one game in the last two matches of the week due to her lingering left ankle injury.

The Lions face another tough test when they travel to defending national champion Tampa today.
