NEW PORT RICHEY - The words 'Neighbors Helping Neighbors' are printed on a flier to promote an upcoming benefit for a New Port Richey man.
David Robles was involved in a Sept. 13 motorcycle accident that has resulted in a long-term stay at Bayfront Medical Center. According to Linda Therrien, who is planning the fundraiser in Robles' honor, his injuries include a crushed right hand, as well as a broken femur, pubic bone and hip bone.
'The ball that holds his hip is gone and will have to be reconstructed, and they've put a rod in his left arm,' Therrien said. 'He has had numerous injuries and has just gone into rehabilitation at Bayfront.'
Robles and his wife, Emmylou, have three children: Christina, 11; Lalo, 9; and Christian, 1. Therrien provides day care services for Christina and Christian at Nanny and Pop Pop's Quality Day Care, her New Port Richey-based business.
'For a young couple with kids that depends on two incomes, this is hard,' she said.
For the time being, Therrien said she has stopped charging the family for babysitting services. In addition, she and her daughters Cheryl Snyder, Lynette Bickhardt and April Johnson plan a yard sale to help the family cover medical expenses. The fundraiser will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Morty's Pizza, 7534 Massachusetts Ave. (at Massachusetts Avenue and Keena Street) in New Port Richey.
'Morty's was nice enough to lend us their parking lot,' said Therrien.
Therrien welcomes donations for the yard sale, as well as volunteers who can help at the event. Those interested may call her at (727) 841-0096.
'We've all had tough times,' she said, 'and it's good to help out.'
