The Coast Guard suspended the search for a missing boat captain this morning, according to a news release.
The Coast Guard had been searching for Lindsay Forde, 56, of Hollywood since it received a call Friday evening from Michael Swindle, 56, of Tampa, who hired Forde to captain his 46-foot vessel, Extra Labor.
Swindle, an inexperienced boater, said he went below deck and that when he came back up Forde had disappeared. Crews began the search in the Gulf of Mexico about 75 miles west of Bayport.
Swindle hired Forde to pilot the vessel from Houston to St. Petersburg. The men en route from Pensacola to St. Petersburg when Forde was reported missing.
The Coast Guard said it has searched a 4,706-square-mile area.
"If new information comes to light, we would consider resuming our search," Cmdr. Chris O'Neil says in the news release. "But at this time, we are confident that if Forde was in the area we searched, we would have found him."
