Noles QBs Supporting Each Other

Published: October 3, 2007

TALLAHASSEE - QB Drew Weatherford, who for the first time in seven games will not start for Florida State on Saturday, said he will continue to work behind Xavier Lee to be ready if the team needs him.

'I've got to be ready to play just like he was ready to play so I can take advantage of an opportunity if I get one,' Weatherford said. 'He's been there for me and he's been playing that role for awhile. It's time for me to repay the favor.'

Weatherford completed seven of 11 passes through his first four drives against the Crimson Tide, but converted only three first downs before FSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher turned the ball over to Lee.

Lee said after last week's 21-14 win against Alabama that Weatherford's support, from his first touchdown pass up until after the game was over, meant a lot to him.

'I want us to win,' Weatherford said. 'That's the most important thing. I know how hard everybody works out here, including Xavier.'

Capogna 'Ready To Go' For Saturday

TAMPA - University of South Florida senior C Nick Capogna, who was limited to only four plays against West Virginia last week, said he's 'ready to go' for Saturday's game against Florida Atlantic.

Capogna suffered a sprained knee in the season opener against Elon and missed the next two games before playing sparingly against West Virginia. He said he's near 100 percent.

ODDS AND ENDS: LB Ben Moffitt was named the Bronko Nagurski Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday a day after earning Big East Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Meyer Concerned About Late Night

GAINESVILLE - University of Florida coach Urban Meyer said he was very concerned about his team's nighttime activities after three football players were interviewed about a shooting early Sunday morning.

Tight end Aaron Hernandez and two other current Gators, who have yet to be identified, were among several people interviewed by police.

Although the players are not suspects in the case, Meyer said he wasn't overly happy that his players were out at 2 a.m.

'I mean I know college kids do stuff,' Meyer said. 'I'd rather not do that after games, but I'm not a police officer either, so I can't lock them down completely.'

Shannon: McKenzie Not Ready To Play

CORAL GABLES - WR Jermaine McKenzie has been cleared to play according to his father.

'Jermaine is feeling real good,' John McKenzie said. 'He was hoping to play against Duke, but Dr. John Uribe recommended he wait another week before playing in a game. He should dress against North Carolina.'

Coach Randy Shannon said McKenzie will not play this weekend.

'He is out. It won't be a while until he comes back. He won't play any time soon. He can go out there and run around. He can't have any contact.'
