Regarding 'Remote-Controlled Toys Get Airport Security Scrutiny' (Metro, Oct. 2):
I understand the scrutiny but am upset again that we are advised to check items of question. My sister had a camcorder stolen from her checked baggage when she traveled on Continental. She was told that the airlines are not responsible for electronic items packed in checked luggage. Filing a police report does not garner any results in finding the items. My husband had his electric shaver stolen with the same results and was instructed to carry on such items.
I am frustrated that items are stolen and the airlines just say they're not responsible for things you packed. Whether it's the baggage handlers or the screeners (Transportation Security Administration employees) taking the items, it seems that this should be a security issue when somewhere along the line someone can't be trusted.
