PLANT CITY - Commissioners soon will appoint someone to the city's Historic Resources Board after the resignation of Tim Martin, who has served for nearly five years.
"I'm taking some time off to refresh and revitalize," Martin tells commissioners in a letter dated Aug. 20.
Martin owns Heritage Construction, which has done work in the city's historical downtown district, said planning director Rob Anders.
Martin was appointed to the board on Oct. 28, 2002.
Commissioners are looking at four candidates: Laura Brown, a software engineer; David Clement, who works for a hospitality company that oversees hotels in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean; Justin Crosby, an architect; and Pat Young, a Fed-Ex employee who also is on the board of the East Hillsborough Historical Society.
Mayor Rick Lott said replacing Martin is "not a time-sensitive issue" and that the deadline for applications has been extended two weeks to allow more potential board members to step forward.
Commissioners are expected to select someone during a meeting that will begin at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at city hall, 302 W. Reynolds St. Applications for the Historic Resources Board seat are available at city hall.
The board helps oversee and protect historical buildings and districts in Plant City.
