TAMPA - The city council still can't agree on what it wants to do with Ward Street.
For the second week in a row, the council was split on whether to close Ward as part of a redevelopment project that would bring a grocery store to Kennedy Boulevard.
John Dingfelder, Charlie Miranda and Joseph Caetano voted to close the road, and Linda Saul-Sena, Tom Scott and Mary Mulhern wanted to keep it open.
Chairwoman Gwen Miller, who voted last week to close the road, was absent Thursday.
The council will vote again at 8:45 a.m. Oct. 25 at city hall, 315 E. Kennedy Blvd.
The road closure is part of Porter Development's plans to replace the Brazzeals Goodyear Tire store with offices, restaurants, a fitness center and a fourth-floor grocery store. Neighbors had complained about cut-through traffic.
The council has approved rezoning the 6-acre property, across from WestShore Plaza, to allow for the development. The rezoning is contingent on approval of the road closure.
