TAMPA – A half-dozen high school athletes are waiting to find out whether they'll be disciplined for a fight that broke out after a junior varsity football game between Alonso and Jefferson high schools Thursday night.
It happened during the post-game handshake on the field.
"These kids just lost their heads," said Kent Glover, Alonso's athletics director.
About six students started swinging their fists.
"We'll review the tape to see exactly what took place," Glover said. "Whatever action needs to be taken, we'll do that. And I'm sure Jefferson will do the same."
Linda Cobbe, a spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County School District, said the county's director of athletics will visit both schools today to determine which students were involved and to what extent.
Reporters Katherine Smith and Valerie Kalfrin contributed to this report.
