LAKELAND - The 20-year reunion of 1987 Lakeland High School grads kicked off at 4 p.m. today with a barbecue tailgate party before a football game and the man who police say threatened violence at the event still in jail.
Timothy Vaughn, 39, is charged with felony aggravated cyber stalking and 178 counts of possession of a destructive device and possession of a destructive device. On Wednesday, police found homemade M-80 and M-100 firecrackers in Vaughn's Lakeland home.
Vaughn sent an e-mail to a former classmate Sept. 10 that said in part: "Nobody talked to me back then so stop talking to me now . . . I can make Virginia Tech look like a . . . birthday party."
Vaughn told police he didn't plan to carry out his threat, said Polk County sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers.
Lakeland police is providing additional security for the reunion, Rodgers said.
Vaughn was being held Friday at Polk County Jail with bail set at $540,000.
