HUDSON - A 27-year-old man involved in a fatal crash Wednesday afternoon turned himself into the Florida Highway Patrol on Thursday, the agency said.
Brian Douglas Haag, of 9951 Loy St., New Port Richey, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, Trooper Larry Coggins said.
Kenneth E. Sapp, 38, of 14428 Lancer Road, Spring Hill, was killed in the wreck. His passenger, Korey Sapp, 13, was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. The Sapps' relationship was not clear in a highway patrol report.
Haag's passenger, David Timothy Smith, also was flown to Bayfront Medical Center. Conditions of Smith and Korey Sapp were unavailable Thursday afternoon.
According to the highway patrol:
Haag, driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup, and Kenneth Sapp, driving a 2002 Dodge pickup, were traveling east on Kitten Trail in excess of the 40 mph speed limit. The trucks were side by side when one of the vehicles switched lanes and sideswiped the other.
Both vehicles overturned and all occupants in each vehicle were ejected. The wreck happened just north of Hudson Avenue.
Haag, who fled from the scene, suffered minor injuries, Coggins said. He turned himself in at the highway patrol's station on State Road 52 in Land O' Lakes on Thursday.
'More charges are pending,' Coggins said. 'We still have a long way to go in this case.'
