ST. PETERSBURG - Firefighters safely delivered a 7-pound baby girl Saturday after its mother was unable to proceed to St. Petersburg General Hospital and pulled her car to the curb.
Inga Akins, 26, a mother of four, was alone in the car, which she stopped just before 10 a.m. at 4550 16th Ave. N., deciding she could drive no farther, according to a St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue report. A bystander called 911.
Rescue 10 firefighter/paramedics Louis Piccoli, Greg Harvin and Chad Schum delivered the baby at 10:10 a.m. without complications, the report said. Mother and daughter were reported doing well Saturday afternoon at St. Petersburg General.
