Study Proposal More
Regarding 'FairTax Is Pure Fantasy' by Bruce Bartlett (Other Views, Oct. 1):
Like most government representatives past and present, Bartlett has given only a portion of the relevant information on the FairTax Act. His article was very limited and biased and he gave no information on the advantages of the FairTax Act.
For example, his statement that businesses would have to cut employee pay by 22 percent under the FairTax is very misleading. Bartlett does include the fact that businesses would no longer have to pay payroll taxes on employees, therefore saving money that could increase the wages of employees and further employment as companies would have more cash resources available for growth.
I urge everyone to visit the Web site www.fairtax.org and read the available information on the proposal.

Most Would Benefit
The only people who would not benefit from the FairTax are people who have illegal means to acquire their money or people who are paid 'under the table.' Shouldn't that drug dealer have to pay his taxes when he buys his new sports car with his 'illegally acquired' cash? Or the server or bartender who makes about $700 a week and only claims minimum wage?
If Bartlett wants to worry about the state governments having to pay more money out to improve roads, they should take all the pork out of all the bills and allow the president to line-item veto any bill brought from Congress, but that is another story.

Many Vested Interests
The recent article on the FairTax by Bruce Bartlett has almost all of the talking points of people who have a strong, vested interest in keeping our current, incomprehensible, 86,000-page tax code. Those vested special interests include virtually all purveyors of tax remedies such as estate planning, tax-deferred investments and tax-code compliance experts like IRS collectors and accountants. The FairTax eliminates the current tax code, not the IRS. Someone has to see to our government's income needs.
