NEW TAMPA - Bratwurst and beer are on tap this evening, when the grounds of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church become the setting for the parish's fifth annual Oktoberfest.
The event scheduled to start after 5 p.m. Mass - about 5:45 - is open to all and will feature musical entertainment by Band of Fred.
In addition to the brats, beer and sauerkraut, there will be hot dogs for the children, other beverages and funnel cakes. Entertainment for children will include games, an inflatable obstacle course, a magic show and balloon animals.
'It's to get the people of the parish and the people of the surrounding communities together,' said Cy DiLeo of Knights of Columbus, which organizes the annual festival. 'It's a community thing.'
Last year's event drew about 400 people.
'It was well-received,' he said. 'It been growing every year.'
There will be chances to win one of about two dozen custom-designed themed gift baskets, valued between $25 and $45. The baskets contain various items, from fruits and specialty foods to beverages.
