HE SAID IT

'You always have concerns after a loss. We lost a lot of our confidence last week. I wanted our guys to get their confidence back, and the only way you can do that is to make plays.'

- West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez, after the 100th victory of his coaching career on Saturday, which came a week after the University of South Florida upset the Mountaineers 21-13.

HOT START
Boston College QB Matt Ryan. Ryan threw four touchdown passes, giving him 15 TDs and five interceptions for the season. Boston College, at 6-0, is off to its best start in 65 years. The Eagles have won 16 straight at home. They began the 1942 season with eight straight wins and finished at 8-2. They've gone unbeaten three times, the last in 1940 when they went 11-0 and won the Sugar Bowl.

FAB FRESHMAN

Texas Tech's Michael Crabtree set the NCAA record for touchdown receptions by a freshman with a 32-yard scoring catch against Iowa State. Crabtree scored his 15th touchdown of the season when Graham Harrell hit him on a slant route across the middle and he ran 20 yards into the end zone to put Tech up 7-0 with 7:19 in the first quarter. The Red Raiders receiver overtook the 14 TD catches by freshmen Jabar Gaffney (Florida, 2000); Mike Williams (Southern California, 2002) and Davone Bess, (Hawaii 2005).

RECORD BREAKER

Chadron State RB Danny Woodhead broke the NCAA all-divisions career rushing record against Western New Mexico. He got the 121 yards he needed by the third quarter to surpass the previous record of 7,353 yards held by R.J. Bowers. Bowers, who set the record from 1997-2000 at Division III Grove City (Pa.) College, and Woodhead are the only players to top 7,000 yards rushing in college football. Woodhead, who won the 2006 Harlon Hill Trophy as the outstanding player in Division II, has averaged 27 carries and 190 yards over 38 career games. Last year, he set an all-division single-season record with 2,756 yards rushing. Woodhead's run for the record has brought unprecedented exposure for Chadron State, whose best-known football alum is former Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers receiver Don Beebe.

IVY FIVE-O

Yale set an Ivy League offensive benchmark in a 50-10 rout of Dartmouth, its most lopsided win against the Big Green in 40 years. The Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0), who routed Cornell 51-12 two weeks ago, became the first team in the league's 51-year history to score at least 50 points twice in a season against fellow Ivy competitors.

BIG PERFORMANCES

• Northwestern QB C.J. Bacher threw for a career-high 520 yards and five touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime, in a 48-41 victory over Michigan State.

• Holy Cross QB Dominic Randolph passed for 404 yards and six touchdowns in a 48-37 win over Brown. He completed 29 of 37 passes, and his 404 yards through the air were the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. Brown QB Michael Dougherty threw a school-record 65 passes, and completed 42 for 422 yards and two touchdowns.

• Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour passed for 360 yards and five touchdowns - and ran for 146 yards and another score - in a 58-38 victory over Ball State.

• Michigan RB Mike Hart ran for 215 yards to become the Wolverines' career rushing leader. He needed 33 yards to break Anthony Thomas' record of 4,472 yards rushing.
