Bucs' Start Is All Garcia
Just so Jon Gruden understands, Tampa Bay's 3-1 record has nothing to do with him and everything to do with Jeff Garcia. Further, I am sure I'm not alone when I say Gruden's terrifying scowl (for the camera) is getting a little old.

Is Cadillac Too Fragile?
Cadillac Williams is out for the season with another injury. As injury prone as he is, could this be a sign he may be too fragile to play in the NFL?

Saban's Sour Grapes
I read the comments of Alabama coach Nick Saban regarding where USF gets its football players ('Saban's Comments Raise The Ire Of Leavitt,' Oct. 3). It's a pity John Steinbeck no longer is with us. He could have had a best-seller out of this: 'The Sour Grapes of Wrath.'

Sour Grapes, Part II
So Alabama coach Nick Saban thinks USF's winning record is a result of the school's ability to recruit better football players because of lower academic standards. Is he saying better players are dumber than average players? Perhaps he thinks a player can improve by becoming dumber. No, wait - that only applies to coaching. I think Nick Saban just dreads the possibility of facing another Florida team better than his own.

Give Us More FAU
Florida Atlantic University alumni and fans in this area would greatly appreciate even a small amount of coverage each week. You may be surprised at the number of Owls fans in your circulation area. FAU has a short, but exciting football history and may join USF as another fast-rising football program.

Meyer's Call Was Rancid
I don't appreciate the introduction of trickery into sports - neither the most blatant kind of the New England Patriots nor the recent sneakiness of Florida coach Urban Meyer, who called a last-split-second timeout before an opponent's last-gasp field-goal attempt. The latter was legal, but still rather rancid. One accepts that at the professional level, but hopefully not at the college level. The strategy failed, and UF dropped in the national rankings. That means only weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Get a life, little geckos of the Gator Nation.
