Regarding 'Not Too Close, Bikini Dancers' (Metro, Oct. 5):
Within three miles of my house the following has happened recently:
On the corner of U.S. Highway 92 and Kingsway Drive, a body was found in the orange grove. On the corner of U.S. 92 and Parsons Road, another body was found wrapped in a carpet during construction of a convenience store. At the supermarket on MLK and Parsons, there was a carjacking and robbery that the victim luckily escaped, and a van stolen a block away at an auto parts store was used in a gruesome kidnapping, murder and burning of a mother of three out jogging.
Although the statistics on crime officially show a decline in Hillsborough County, I, and I'm sure most of my neighbors, are not exactly sleeping better these days.
That is why the article on bikini bar dancers caught my eye. It talked about all the money spent on attorneys' fees to make the legislation enforceable and the $49,000 spent on out-of-court settlements, as well as the county commission holding lengthy public hearings.
Florida Family Association director David Caton praised the efforts as being 'all designed for the public safety.' Instead of lengthy hearings on bikinis, let the sheriff's deputies chase real criminals and spend time finding ways to make law enforcement more efficient.
