Published: October 8, 2007

Plant senior setter Kellie Catanach was recently named one of the top 250 seniors in the country by PrepVolleyball.com. She has committed to Duke.

If you could put together the ultimate concert, which artists would you select?

Well, there would definitely be some Rascal Flatts in there. I like John Mayer. Anything country, honestly. Maybe some Shania Twain for some oldies.

You helped Plant win the Class 5A state championship last year while your dad (Chris Catanach) coached the University of Tampa women's volleyball team to the Division II national championship. What was that like?

It was pretty crazy. It was awesome. I missed his regional final match, but we were able to go to Pensacola the next weekend to watch him win. It was awesome, because I knew what that feeling was like. He deserved it so much.

You said your family is very competitive. How competitive?

The family board games when we were younger, they used to get extremely competitive. My sister Tina, she's here now, too, we would play backyard volleyball or beach volleyball, and we'd end up having to quit because we were so mad at each other. We always work it out.

I'm sure a lot of schools came after you, so why Duke?

Duke was just a perfect fit for me all around. It's a great opportunity to get an education from a school like that. The volleyball team was ranked 11th in the countty at one point this season. I went there to visit and it felt right.

You're a legit 6-foot-2. Has it been hard always being the 'tall girl'?

I've always been taller than most people. My sister used to be short, but now she's sprouted in a two-month period. It's always weird, because you feel like you stand out more. Sophomore Maddie Martin and I talk about it, how we hate being tall. It's hard to find long enough pants and that kind of thing. ... There are plenty of tall boys out there, so it's not that big of a deal.
