LAND O' LAKES - Mitchell coach Keith Paulk reached the 100-win mark last week after his Mustangs (16-5) defeated Sickles, 25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20 last Tuesday.
Following wins against Wesley Chapel and St. Petersburg late last week, Paulk's 5-year career record stands at 102-20.
He had a 50-14 record from 1998-99, while coaching Clearwater and has been 18-8 and 18-7 the last two seasons at Mitchell.
BIG NUMBERS: Speaking of triple digits, Hudson coach Linda McQuade has accumulated a 378-107 career record, while River Ridge coach Heidi Castelamare sits at 323-99.
GO STEADY: After starting the season winning one of its first eight matches, Bishop McLaughlin has turned the frequent losses into wins. The Hurricanes have now won five of their last eight, their last two.
Setter Marissa Gill has not focused in on one hitter, instead spreading the ball around. As a result, two players have surpassed the 100-plus kill mark - Natalie Vanderhinder (136) and Allison Laney (122), while another, Kristen Pawlowski sits at 92 kills. Gill has gotten in on the fun as well with her 43 kills.
Laney leads the team in aces (47), while Pawlowski has the advantage in blocks (77) and Emily Addessi has the edge in digs (173).
THIS WEEK'S MATCHUPS: In a rematch of Sept. 11's shocker, Hudson (14-5) will travel to Zephyrhills tonight in an attempt to avenge its 25-22, 25-22, 25-23 home loss to the Bulldogs. It was the Cobras' first loss of the season and kicked off a streak in which Hudson lost three of four matches.
After a lopsided defeat at the hands of River Ridge, Land O' Lakes traveled to Zephyrhills (11-1) Monday night.
The Bulldogs have recovered from their first loss of the season, which came Sept. 9 against Mitchell and won four consecutive matches, giving up one game in the process, before Monday's match against Land O' Lakes.
The Gators (15-6) had won five consecutive, including a first-place finish in the silver bracket of the Hillsborough Community College high school tournament.
MUCH IMPROVED: Hudson hit the road to Fort Lauderdale for the Lady Chiefs Volleyball Invitational, winning three of five matches and collecting a first-place finish in the Silver Division, defeating Monarch, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18.
The Cobras lost to Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons, while beating Miami Monsignor Pace and Hollywood Hills Friday. Saturday, Hudson beat Coconut Creek Monarch and fell to Fort Pierce John Carroll.
According to McQuade, Paige Lake, Kelsey Russo, Lauren Stump and Shannon Zasloff have developed into consistent hitters.
During the tournament, Metz led the team with 50 kills and was followed by Lake (17), Zasloff (17), Stump (14) and Russo (11). Setter Mary Cook collected 84 assists in this weekend's matches.
The Cobras defense has also come along with solid digging from Metz, Danielle Fennimore and Jessica Christenson.
The Volleyball Notebook will run every Tuesday in the Pasco Tribune. Coaches who want to add their team's information can submit their entries to Eddie Daniels by calling (813) 948-4214 or e-mailing edaniels@tampatrib.com.
