TAMPA – The chairman and chief executive officer of Progress Energy died today while on a business trip to London.

McGehee joined Progress Energy's predecessor, Carolina Power & Light, in 1997 as a senior vice president and general counsel. He was promoted to president and chief operating officer in 2002 and named CEO and chairman in 2004.
