PLANT CITY - Hillsborough County State Attorney Mark Ober's message wasn't always upbeat as featured speaker at today's Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting.
Mark Ober
Ober talked of cases he'd handled over the years, including those of juveniles with no respect for the law, such as a 14-year-old who killed a classmate and a 12-year-old who raped a mother in front of her children.
He said his office has 49 pending first-degree homicide cases, and he told how the county jail, with about 4,000 inmates, has more prisoners than the corrections systems in some small states.
"I caution you to be careful when you are out and about," he said.
Ober showed he has a sense of humor when he told about a robbery case where the victim was asked to point out the thief. After carefully looking around the courtroom, the victim pointed to one of Ober's prosecutors.
