ST. PETERSBURG - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays will welcome former manager Lou Piniella and the Chicago Cubs to Tropicana Field on June 17-19, according to the 2008 schedule released today.
The schedule is subject to change, and the game times have yet to be determined.
The Rays, entering their 11th season, open on the road on Mon., March 31, at Baltimore. After three games against the Orioles, and a four-game series at the Yankees, the Rays return for their home opener on April 8 against Seattle.
The Rays' interleague schedule includes the Cubs series, as well as a three-game series against the Houston Astros - also making their first visit to the Trop - on June 20-22.
The Rays will play six games against the Florida Marlins, including three at home (June 13-15), and travel to Pittsburgh and St. Louis (their first visit to Busch Stadium).
As a result of baseball's unbalanced schedule, the Rays will play 72 games against the four American League East opponents: 18 each against the Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays. They also will play 38 games against AL Central teams and 34 against the AL West, in addition to 18 National League games.
