PLANT CITY Starbucks opens its first Plant City coffee shop at 5 a.m. Thursday and it shouldn't be hard to find for motorists passing through town on Interstate 4.
It has the tallest pylon sign – 120 feet high - of any Starbucks in the United States. District Manager Michael Glisson said the company wanted a tall sign to beckon motorists off I-4. The sign topped with the Starbucks logo joins four other tall restaurant signs, ranging from 80 to 130 feet, at the I-4/Thonotosassa Road interchange.
The Starbucks, at 2701 Thonotosassa Road, will be open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week, with a drive through lane open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The shop is on land formerly occupied by a mobile home dealership.
Like other Starbucks, the Plant City location, which has 30 employees, will help raise money for local charity, Glisson said.
"We'll be getting involved in the community in the near future," he said.
There are about 14,000 Starbucks around the world.
