TAMPA - Ever tune into a great TV show midstream and wished you could rewind it to see it from the beginning?
Bright House Networks said today it is close to launching just that kind of feature for its digital cable customers in the Tampa Bay area by the end of the year.
The feature, called "Start Over," will be free to subscribers. It will allow viewers to tune into a show at 5:28 p.m., for example, but restart the program as it began at 5 p.m. The feature does not require customers to have a digital video recorder.
The feature will work with about 40 popular channels initially, including Nickelodeon and Animal Planet, but expanded to about 100 next year, Bright House officials said.
Verizon, Bright House's chief competitor in the Bay area, hasn't announced plans for a similar service, but analysts expect the company to respond with a competing one.
