NEW PORT RICHEY - Pasco County Sheriff Bob White will take the lead Sunday in his second annual Sheriff's Charities Ride and he's still looking for followers.
Preregistration will be held Saturday at the weekend's Cotee River Bike Fest in downtown New Port Richey ( www.coteeriverbikefest.com) and from 9 a.m. Sunday until the ride starts at noon at Gulf Coast Harley-Davidson, 5817 State Road 54.
The fee is $25 per rider and $15 per passenger and includes a T-shirt, collectible pin and VIP parking at the bike fest. Participants could win an enclosed trailer with room for two bikes.
The ride is rain or shine, and this year's event will benefit the Boys & Girls Club in west Pasco.
After leaving the Harley dealership, the motorcyclists will head east on S.R. 54, weaving their way through 50 miles of west Pasco via Starkey Boulevard, Moon Lake Road, State Road 52, Little Road, Massachusetts Avenue and other streets, and ending at Main Street and the bike fest.
Motorcycle Unit Deputy Jason Marques, who is coordinating the ride, asks that other drivers on those roads be patient Sunday as the large caravan of motorcycles passes by. He expects it could take as long as 20 minutes for all the bikes to get through any given intersection.
'Expect delays,' he said.
Last year, about 800 motorcycle enthusiasts participated in the inaugural ride, which netted more than $16,000 for the Pasco Sheriff's Office Missing and Abducted Child Response Team command post vehicle.
This year, organizers expect an even better turnout.
