All week, Berkeley Prep volleyball coach Randy Dagostino prepared himself for his 700th career win. After beating Lennard in three games (25-5, 25-9, 25-11) Wednesday to reach the milestone, however, the coach was unprepared for the celebration that would follow.
When Dagostino exited the gym, he discovered the team bus had left him behind.
'Then they told me to get in the car,' Dagostino said.
Dagostino (700-150) was taken to a party in his honor at a local restaurant.
'I'm glad I was able to get everything I had off the bus,' he laughed.
During his 25 years at Berkeley, Dagostino won 12 state titles and made 16 state tournament appearances.
'My mom and dad were there, my wife was there and my son sat next to me on the bench,' he said.
Dagostino said being able to have his daughter and right-side hitter, Mackenzie, play in the match made it more significant.
'Mackenzie played in all three games and she did great,' he said. 'This was something we can share for a long time.'
