TAMPA - Construction on two highway projects at Tampa International Airport remains on schedule, airport and state highway officials said today.
Completion of the state's $205 million airport interchange project is scheduled for May 2010, but incentive plans have been created for the contractor that could result in the massive bridge and highway work just outside the airport's boundary to be ready for use by fall 2009.
The project includes a complete rebuilding of State Road 60 between Interstate 275 and the Veterans Expressway, including the area just west of the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay hotel and the Spruce Street area west of West Shore Boulevard.
A separate $35.1 million project on airport property to widen the George Bean Parkway to and from the main terminal and improve how vehicles must merge for different airport locations is scheduled to be completed by October 2008.
In addition, travelers leaving Tampa International will be routed on some of the project's new road in December, including one across the tall bridge that is nearing completion.
