As a child, Evan Ravenel dreamed about playing college basketball in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Ravenel, Brandon's 6-foot-8 power forward, will get to live his dream.
Friday, Ravenel committed to Boston College, one of many schools interested in the three-star recruit.
'It was the best opportunity for me to get to the NBA,' said Ravenel, who visited BC on Thursday and also considered offers from Virginia Tech, Wichita State and Tulane. 'They really work with their post players. I think the ACC is the greatest conference, hands down.'
Ravenel averaged 7.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last season for Brandon, but averaged 14 points and 11 rebounds during the summer on his AAU team, where he caught the attention of Division I scouts.
'We have a lot of family on the East Coast, it's a good school and we took all of that into consideration,' said Ravenel's father and AAU coach, Eugene. 'It felt close to home.'
Boston College lost to Georgetown in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year and finished with a record of 21-12.
Ravenel said the idea of playing at Duke and North Carolina was too hard to resist.
'That affected my decision,' he said. 'It's going to be loud. Every game in the ACC is loud from what I hear.'
