Last year, Julia Roberts presented the American Cinematheque award to pal George Clooney. This time it was her turn to receive the honor.
The smile, the laugh and the looks that have become familiar to moviegoers were on full display Friday as Roberts was recognized for her contributions to the film industry. On hand were Tom Hanks, Natalie Portman and Sally Field.
Roberts said she came along at the right time to turn into an A-list actress.
'I think I came along at a kinder time in the business,' she said. 'It wasn't about fashion, and there weren't so many media outlets. It was just kind of different. You could really cultivate your work a little more gently.'
'King Lear' Star As Hot As Hannah Montana
Ian McKellen is nearly as hot a ticket as Hannah Montana.
The English actor is to play Shakespeare's 'King Lear' in six performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company at the University of California, Los Angeles starting Friday, and tickets have been resold for more than $1,000.
The entire run of the play was sold out in July on the day it went on sale, with a top price of $90. Single orchestra seats are listing at $936 to $1,706 on online ticket marketplace Stubhub. Bids for a ticket on eBay have topped $800.
Stubhub spokesman Sean Pate says the highest price actually paid for a pair has been $2,106.
Only 14-year-old pop sensation Miley Cyrus, star of the Disney Channel's 'Hannah Montana' TV show, has created a bigger recent stir on the Los Angeles ticket market.
