TBPAC Plugs Into Acoustic Musicians

TAMPA - Singer-songwriter John Gorka kicks off this season's Club Jaeb at TBPAC, a series of acoustic-music concerts held in the intimate setting of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's Jaeb Theater.

This year marks 20 years since Gorka released his debut album, 'I Know.' He's one of the most popular contemporary folk musicians around. He's also a favorite of other folk and country artists, having his songs recorded by Mary Chapin Carpenter and Maura Connell. His latest release is last year's 'Writing in the Margins.'

Other Club Jaeb performances include:

Jonatha Brooke, Nov. 5: Also known for her work with Jennifer Kimball in the duo The Story, Brooke's songs have popped up everywhere from a Disney movie ('Return to Never Land'), an episode of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and on a single by Nick Lachey.

Jennifer O'Connor, Dec. 10: If O'Connor looks familiar, maybe it's because she rang up your purchase at Tampa's Vinyl Fever, where she worked while living here briefly a few years ago. She's now recording for the respected indie-rock label Matador, which released her album, 'Over the Mountain, Across the Valley and Back to the Stars.'

Bethany & Rufus, Jan. 28: Bethany Yarrow is a second-generation folk musician. Her father is Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. She and Rufus Cappadocia create music that mixes grooves, jazz and psychedelic soul with contemporary folk.

Amy Speace, Feb. 11: According to the Village Voice, Speace is 'taking her Americana away from twangy contemplation toward tangy contemplation.' Her latest release is 2006's 'Songs for Bright Street.'

Music begins at 7:30 p.m. A 'Monday Music Mingle' begins an hour prior, with drinks and snacks. Tickets are $25.50 in advance, $29.50 day of show. A $99 package includes all five Club Jaeb shows as well as The Roches' holiday concert Dec. 21 in Ferguson Hall.
