The University of South Florida was ranked No. 2 in the initial Bowl Championship Series rankings released Sunday, meaning if the season ended today the Bulls would be in the championship game against Ohio State. The top two teams in the final BCS poll in December will meet Jan. 7 in New Orleans.
News of the Bulls' No. 2 ranking spread across USF's campus quietly Sunday afternoon, but students appeared to have other things to do.
Several students playing on the athletic fields and courts said they were certainly happy for the team but their enthusiasm was tempered by knowledge that the upcoming game against Rutgers could change things.
'When we got the first two victories, it was surprising,' said accounting major Lasana Henriques, 21. 'I remember thinking that I hope it lasts. We didn't think we'd do this well. It's about time. Our guys deserve it.'
