GAINESVILLE - Florida held a memorial service Monday night to honor walk-on QB Michael "Sunshine" Guilford, who died early Friday morning in a motorcycle crash. Also, Gators coach Urban Meyer brought in former NFL WR Cris Carter to speak to the team about dealing with the aftermath of a tragedy.
Guilford's funeral is today in Blountstown. Ashley Slonina, the UF student who also died in the crash, will be laid to rest today in Lynn Haven. Slonina was dating Florida CB Joe Haden.
Florida QB Tim Tebow, a friend of Guilford's, said many of Guilford's teammates are struggling with his death.
"It's just comforting to know Sunshine's in a better place now," Tebow said. "He was a great kid. I'm just thankful for the 19 years he had here and all the lives he impacted - including myself."
FRUSTRATED FAYSON: WR Jarred Fayson said Monday he refuses to complain about the fact he has only 11 offensive touches this season.
Before the season, Meyer predicted Fayson would be a major part of the offense.
"I don't complain," Fayson said. "I just do what they ask me to do. I'm a team player."
Meyer said he has spoken with Fayson several times about the lack of opportunities.
"It's not intent and it's not on purpose," Meyer said. "I hope he continues to develop as a football player. He is a little bit behind."
Fayson also has worked some at tailback. He has averaged 6.6 yards on nine carries this season.
"I've just got to work with what they give me," Fayson said.
