TAMPA - Two months after he was charged with driving under the influence in Pinellas Park, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer David Boston was arrested Saturday on charges involving a dispute with his wife at their home in Cooper City, authorities said.
Boston, who also used to be a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, was charged with false imprisonment, misdemeanor battery and resisting an officer without violence, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
Boston's wife, Renee, began arguing with her husband after she returned from a walk with their 2-year-old daughter to find her husband had left their house, locked it and left their month-old daughter inside, a report from the Broward County Sheriff's Office says.
Renee Boston told Broward County sheriff's deputies that her husband threw a large leather cushion at her while she held the newborn, then pulled the phone cord out of the wall to prevent her from calling 911.
On Aug. 23, Pinellas Park police found Boston asleep at the wheel of his Range Rover, and tests showed his blood contained the date-rape drug GHB. Toxicology reports revealed that Boston had 870 micrograms per milliliter of GHB in his urine when arrested.
The amount is four times what one would expect to see in the urine of someone who received a prescribed, legitimate dose. The Food and Drug Administration has approved GHB as a treatment for narcolepsy, a sleep disorder.
Shortly after the toxicology results were made public, Boston was released by the Bucs with an injury settlement.
Last month, Boston entered a plea of not guilty in the DUI case, which has not gone to trial.
Information from Tribune wires was used in this report.
