CLEARWATER - A 30-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with at least eight bank robberies, including two robberies here, Georgia and in the Carolinas, U.S. Marshal's office reported.
Michael Roy Wood was arrested at the Buena Vista Hotel on U.S. 19 at 4:30 p.m. Wood was wanted in connection with a bank robbery in Hendersonville, N.C., and is a suspect in six other bank robberies in Georgia and South Carolina.
He is also a suspect in two local bank robberies, including one in Pinellas Park.
During the bank robberies, Wood claimed to be armed and held his hand under his shirts, authorities said. Wood told bank employees he had a gun, police said.
Wood was being held at the Clearwater Police Department.
The U.S. Marshals Tampa Bay Area Fugitive Task Force is made up of Federal, State and Local law enforcement officers.
