Published: October 16, 2007

NEW PORT RICHEY - Progress Energy Art Gallery promises 'A Never B/4 Seen Halloween' from 6 to 10:00 p.m. Oct. 27.

The fundraising party features prizes, games, food and drinks, and the opening and closing of a 'Never B/4 Seen Art' exhibit, which will challenge the viewer to see what it is - or isn't.

Highlighting the evening is the performance of an old-fashioned radio play - 'Gemma's Angel' - written and directed by local pop artist Ralph Annan, whose work is sold at Progress Energy gallery.

'The play will be performed at 7 p.m. and will end about 7:30. That way, people who are going to the theater that night will have time to make both shows,' gallery director Karren Tolliver said in a news release. 'We are so proud and excited to be presenting Ralph's play. And we have uncovered some bright voice talent in the area as well.'

The players are all local and, except for one, newcomers to radio plays. Jeanine Humphrey, who plays Gemma, 'has a long radio career under her belt,' Tolliver said. 'She is helping us sound as professional as possible.'

Humphrey also helps lead Greater New Port Richey Main Street's design committee.

Here's the rest of the cast:

•Gemma's understudy - Jackie Pacimeo, a teacher at Sunray Elementary School.

•Rosie - pop artist Dawn Marmaduke.

•Gino - Kenneth Pacimeo, Jackie's husband and lawn care service owner.

•Learner - poet John Durler/

•Mankin and Jason the Narrator - Serge Flores, who creates Venetian-style masks.

•Musician - Wes Trigger, who paints florals, seascapes, landscapes and wildlife in oils.

The play will air the morning of Oct. 28, on 13 stations in Long Island, N.Y. 'Our sponsor Jeanne Fontana of Greenstone/Fontana, a New York-based advertising and marketing firm, has a syndicated public service radio show,' Tolliver explained. 'Jeanne is one of the gallery's angels, and she has been instrumental in getting this project off the ground.'

It's also possible the play will be aired locally.

Former Deputy Mayor Bob Langford will record the play at his studio, Tub's Music, in New Port Richey. 'We are so thankful to have Bob's extensive expertise on this project,' Tolliver said. 'Now we are certain to sound as professional as possible.'

Copies of the CD, with cover art by Annan, will be sold in the gallery starting the day of the party.

Admission is $10. Guests are encouraged to come in costume. Buy tickets at the door or in advance during gallery hours - noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday - or at www.nprgallery.com.

The community gallery was opened by the Main Street organization with a grant from Progress Energy to encourage the growth of art and culture in New Port Richey's downtown. All proceeds from sales go toward operating expenses.

The gallery is at 6231 Grand Blvd., just south of the Richey Suncoast Theatre. Call (727) 848-6500 for details.
