PLANT CITY - O'Brien's Irish Pub & Grill is sponsoring a fundraiser Saturday in memory of Hillsborough County sheriff's Sgt. Ron Harrison to benefit Tampa Bay area youth football leagues.
The Plant City O'Brien's pub, 1701 S. Alexander St., is calling the fundraiser "Memory of a Hero," in honor of Harrison. The sergeant was shot and killed Aug. 15 while driving his cruiser home after completing a drunken driving training exercise in Brandon. His assailant was later killed in a shootout with authorities.
"Harrison had a long relationship with youth football in the county," O'Brien's manager, Terry Haley, said. "One of the bands we use at the restaurant, Code Blues, is made up of law enforcement employees. Their involvement with us and recent conversations led to the fundraiser idea."
Code Blues will perform live at O'Brien's, along with four other bands: Memphis Highway, Damon Fowler Group, West Brady Park and Rollin' River Band. The benefit will start at 4 p.m. and continue until closing.
In addition to the bands that will appear for free, O'Brien's is holding drawings for items such as a big-screen television and items donated by Rooms To Go. Haley said vendors for the restaurant have donated goods, gifts and services.
