TAMPA - Extra security will be at Chamberlain High School Thursday morning when students arrive, according to Hillsborough public schools spokesman Stephen Hegarty.
Police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said a 911 caller Wednesday afternoon said a fight occurred across the street from the school and someone ran onto school property with a gun. She cautioned that 911 calls often involve exaggerated or inaccurate information.
Davis said police interviewed people, trying to determine what was going on and whether anyone with a gun was on campus.
Students were sent inside the school shortly after 5 p.m.
Football players had just started practice and the band was practicing next to the stadium when a police helicopter started hovering overhead.
Two police cruisers arrived, and officers sent the band inside the school. Cruisers drove up on the track that surrounds the football field and sent the team to the locker room.
