DADE CITY - A family lost its home to an early morning blaze that tore through a doublewide mobile home today.
Pasco Fire Rescue got the call about 4:20 a.m., and when they arrived at 36801 Terry Road the fire was fully involved, said acting Assistant Chief Mike Ciccarello.
Investigators deemed the blaze accidental, sparked from a barbeque Tuesday night. The fire started from the grill in the back yard, eventually setting the porch on fire and then the home's eaves, Ciccarello said.
The residents, including a husband and wife, teenage child and a guest, awoke to the smell of smoke and evacuated the home, he said.
Ciccarello didn't release the family's name. Property records state the home belongs to John and Ann Mang. It's set on four acres.
About 17 firefighters and rescue personnel responded to the one-alarm blaze, and it took about an hour to bring it under control, Ciccarello said. Nobody was injured.
The home is likely a total loss, he said, estimating the damage at $80,000.
The family didn't want assistance and are staying in the recreational vehicle on the property, Ciccarello said.
