We could celebrate Oct. 15 for a lot of reasons: It's the day the Edison Electric Light Company began operations, the day 'I Love Lucy' premiered and the anniversary of the first audience 'wave' at a sporting event.
Most importantly, it's the start of stone crab season.
For those who love these morsels, it's darn near the happiest day of the year.
Hurricanes disrupted Florida's harvest of stone crab claws the last two years. But given this year's temperate season, stone crab claws are back in a big way.
And you can eat them guilt-free knowing that fishermen take only one claw then release the crab to grow a new one.
Joe's Stone Crab restaurant in Miami may be the most famous eatery for experiencing this delicacy, but local restaurants also offer these divine claws on their menus. A view of some water and boats tends to enhance the experience. That, and a good mustard sauce.
Like all good things, stone crab season will come to an end in May. Until then, belly up for this sublime, succulent, treat of the sea.
