Babysitter Molested 3 Children, Police Say

PINELLAS PARK - A 41-year-old man who babysat for a couple of families is accused of sexually molesting or raping three boys in his care, including a 5-year-old, police said.

James C. Humphreys, who works for Goodyear Rubber Products, was arrested Wednesday and charged with capital sexual battery, lewd and lascivious molestation and lewd and lascivious battery. He is being held without bail at Pinellas County Jail.

Over roughly a year, Humphreys babysat for two families, said Capt. Sanfield Forseth of the Pinellas Park Police Department. For one family, he looked after a 5-year-old boy and his 11-year-old brother in his home; for another, he looked after a 13-year-old, Forseth said.

On one occasion he used an object to penetrate the 5-year-old, and in another instance he inappropriately touched the 11-year-old, according to police and jail affidavits. In another instance he performed a sex act on the 13-year-old, a jail affidavit states.
