Stephen Colbert has announced his candidacy for president on 'The Colbert Report,' tossing his satirical hat into the ring of an already crowded race.
'I shall seek the office of the president of the United States,' Colbert said Tuesday on his Comedy Central show as red, white and blue balloons fell around him.
His recent best-seller, 'I Am America (And So Can You!),' allowed him to mock the now-standard approach to a White House run, complete with a high-profile book tour. Colbert said he planned to run in South Carolina, 'and South Carolina alone.'
Exactly how far the mock conservative pundit planned to stretch his impression of a presidential candidate wasn't clear.
Women Get Death Threats After DeGeneres' Plea
Ellen DeGeneres' doggy drama intensified Wednesday after her tearful plea on her talk show led to death threats against the rescue group that took back her adopted dog for violating the contract, according to a spokesman for the agency's owners.
As a result of the publicity, Marina Batkis and Vanessa Chekroun received voice mail and e-mail threats of death and arson and were besieged by the media, a spokesman said.
On her talk show taped Tuesday and airing Wednesday, a serious DeGeneres reiterated to her audience that 'the dog needs to go to the family.'
It appears, however, that Iggy already has a new family.
Citing the attorney for rescue agency Mutts & Moms, 'The Insider' TV show reported Wednesday that the dog has indeed been placed in a new home.
Soon, On A TV Not Far, Far Away
The Force may be coming to a television near you.
George Lucas is planning a live-action television series spinoff of the 'Star Wars' film franchise.
Lucas told The Los Angeles Times he has 'just begun work' on the series, which will not include major characters Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader.
'The Skywalkers aren't in it, and it's about minor characters,' Lucas told the Times on Tuesday.
Lucas, 63, already has another television series in the works. Lucasfilm Animation has been working for months on the computer-animated 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars.'
Winfrey Talks About Thyroid Condition
Oprah Winfrey is going public about the thyroid condition that slowed down her metabolism and caused her to gain 20 pounds.
Winfrey, 53, was feeling incredibly sluggish by the time her talk show wrapped up its season in May. She eventually discovered the problem: an out-of-balance thyroid.
Hyperthyroidism also can cause a fast heartbeat, among other symptoms; hypothyroidism, the opposite condition, can result in fatigue and weakness.
