DADE CITY - An early morning blaze tore through a double-wide mobile home Wednesday, leaving a family homeless.
When Pasco County Fire Rescue arrived at 36801 Terry Road after the 4:20 a.m. call, the home was fully in flames, said acting Assistant Chief Mike Ciccarello.
Investigators determined that the blaze was accidental, sparked from a barbecue Tuesday night.
The fire started from the grill in the backyard and eventually set the porch on fire and then the eaves, Ciccarello said.
The people inside - a husband and wife, a teenager and a guest - awoke to the smell of smoke and safely evacuated, he said.
Ciccarello did not release the family's name.
Property records state the home, which is set on four acres, belongs to John and Ann Mang.
About 17 firefighters and rescue personnel responded to the one-alarm blaze, which took them about an hour to bring under control, Ciccarello said. The home is likely a total loss, he said, estimating the damage at $80,000.
The family declined assistance and is staying in a recreational vehicle on the property, Ciccarello said.
