TAMPA - Reserved assigned seating will be available along the Gasparilla Children's Parade route for the first time.
Previously, only general admission wristbands were available for the parade along Bayshore Boulevard. With no assigned seating, people arrived hours before the event to claim good seats.
Seats will cost $13 for the Jan. 19 event, according to EventMakers Corp., which markets and manages Gasparilla.
"Frankly, general admission requires you to get there early to get a front-row seat," EventMakers President Darrell Stefany said. "Last year we had some people arrive at the route at dawn, and the parade started at 3."
About 300,000 people attended last year's event, with about 4,000 paying for general admission seats.
Reserved seating for the upcoming alcohol-free event is assigned on a first-ordered, first-reserved basis, and about 800 tickets have been sold, Stefany said.
Tickets can be purchased at www.GasparillaExtravaganza.com.
The Gasparilla Extravaganza runs from noon to 7:30 p.m. In addition to the parade, there will be air shows, a stroll for preschool children and a fireworks display.
Events:
Vendors and children's activities begin, noon to 2 p.m.
Pre-Schooler's Stroll, 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Air Invasion, 1, 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Children's Parade, 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Piratechnic Extravaganza, 7 to 7:30 p.m.
Cost: Free admission; reserved assigned seating along parade route is $13.
