NEW PORT RICHEY - Frank Parsons' 17-piece swing band will celebrate Oktoberfest - big band style - on Wednesday to open the 2007-08 show season.
The 1 p.m. concert at the Richey Suncoast Theatre downtown will feature classic Bavarian polkas, waltzes, marches, novelty songs and standards from the era of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Dizzy Gillespie, to name just a few.
The guest performer on Wednesday is David Howe, lead trumpeter with the St. Pete 42nd Street Big Band.
Rejoining the Parsons group after a summer tour of England is drummer and singer Johnny Russell. He'll share the vocal duties with Liz Antony, who will have her latest CD available for purchase.
Attendees will enjoy the new seating, lighting, carpeting, sound system, and acoustic ceiling and wall tiles at the venerable theater on Grand Boulevard just south of Main Street. The extensive renovations were done this summer.
For reservations, call the box office at (727) 842-6777 and leave a telephone number. The box office will be staffed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and on show day. Single ticket price for each performance is $8.
